MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To ensure high-quality and timely clinical coding with high integrity

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Conduct procedural coding that adheres to coding rules and convention, standards and guidelines
  • Conduct diagnostic coding that adheres to coding rules and convention, standards and guidelines 
  • Participate in quality enhancement and efficiency initiatives that will improve the quality of coding and the departments output.
  • Liaise with Coding Centre Leadership on the quality of clinical information received

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

  • Clinical Coding Qualification  

DESIRED EDUCATION:

  • Anatomy and Physiology training

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION:

  •  Clinical coding experience

DESIRED EDUCATION:

  •  Experience in a private healthcare  patient administration

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
  • Anatomy; physiology and terminology
  • Clinical coding knowledge of ICD-10, CSSA and SADA rules and guidelines and the ability to apply within the workplace
  • Relevant coding systems (e.g. ICD-10 books; Latest CCSA coding books; clinical coding system (Encoder); South African Coding Master Industry Table (MIT),and Patient Administrative system.
  • Clinical Coding and Coding Policies
  • Application of SA ICD-10 Morbidity Coding Standards and Guidelines, the World Health Organization (WHO) coding rules and conventions, PHISC IDC -10 and CCSA Coding Standards and Guidelines and Mediclinic Coding Standards
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of Professional conduct
  • Communication and team work
