MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Provide clinical leadership and take end-to-end ownership for the configuration, implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and associated clinical technology applications to enable safe, high-quality healthcare delivery within the division.

The role leads the design, maturation, and ongoing optimisation of clinician and affiliated workflows, ensuring effective and sustained utilisation of digital health systems in close collaboration with doctors, clinical staff, and Mediclinic group and divisional leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Identify and support an EHR system that meets the clinical end user needs as well as Mediclinic’s clinical, operational and patient care needs in conjunction with the broader Health Informatics and Clinical team
  • Facilitate the planning and implementation of the EHR system and processes throughout the division
  • Ensure effective utilisation and optimisation of an EHR-system
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Build and establish mechanisms to maintain effective stakeholder relationships, specifically with employed and independent clinicians

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

  • An MBChB or equivalent medical degree that would qualify for registration with the local medical council to practice as a medical practitioner

DESIRED EDUCATION

  • Degree/qualification in Health Informatics
  • Medical specialist qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration or Public Health

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • More than 5 years of experience in a clinical setting in direct patient care after full registration
  • At least 2 years of informatics experience with clinical information system development, implementation, support and optimisation within a hospital system
  • User experience with clinical, hospital and/or financial applications/systems

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in Healthcare management
  • Experience in at least one EHR installation in a multi-hospital group or multiple sites
  • South African private healthcare management and clinical practice experience 

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth knowledge of health care practices, clinical workflow, terminology and clinical guidelines in relation to health informatics
  • Knowledge of Clinical informatics, with specific reference to Computerised Physician Order entry (CPOE) and clinical decision support (CDS)
  • Health Care Information Management principles
  • Knowledge of health information systems and other IT applications in support of clinical and business decisions
  • Proficiency in the protocols, regulatory requirements and emerging trends around the management of electronic health records
  • Systems thinking with an understanding of the interactions and inter-dependencies of business information and events on the operational level
  • IT Infrastructure components and integration standards
  • Systems Analysis, Design and Implementation for Health Care Informatics
  • Clinical data analytics and reporting
  • Knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care
  • Project management skills, tools and methodologies
  • Regulations about digital health, data and patient information
  • Clinical Governance and Risk Management
  • Quality management systems
