MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To ensure an efficient and professional pharmaceutical service is provided to the hospital and public

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Lead and manage the people in the department
  • Manage pharmaceutical stock (own, loan and consignment)
  • To manage and mitigate departmental risks
  • Manage and control departmental budgets / finances
  • Deliver a safe and efficient pharmaceutical service
  • Provide an out-patient pharmacy service

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

B Pharm / BSc Pharm

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

3 years working as a pharmacist in a community or institutional/ hospital pharmacy

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

3-5 years supervisory or managerial experience in an institutional/hospital pharmacy

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Risk management processes and procedures
  • Pharmacy and related healthcare industry matters
  • Financial management
  • Ethical and surgical product knowledge
  • Relevant Pharmacy legislation (e.g. Pharmacy Act; Good pharmacy practice; Medicine Control Act 101 of 1965)
  • Medical Aid Scheme benefits; regulations and formularies
  • Clinical pharmacy and antimicrobial stewardship
  • Pharmacy stock management
